TEUTONIC (GERMANIC) LANGUAGES,' a comprehensive term for a number of languages most of which are still spoken at the present time, namely English, Frisian, Dutch, Flemish, German (both High and Low) and the various Scandinavian languages (Swedish, Danish, Icelandic and the Norwegian dialects). They are identified by their use of Germanic languages, which diversified out of Proto-Germanic during the Pre-Roman Iron Age. The Germanic peoples (also called Teutonic, Suebian, or Gothic in older literature) are an ethno-linguistic Indo-European group of northern European origin. The earliest classical writers classified the Teutones as Celts, but more generally they did not distinguish between Celtic and Germanic peoples. The Teutons are commonly classified as a Germanic tribe, and thought to have probably spoken a Germanic language, although the evidence is fragmentary. Although lacking early game economy bonuses, the Teutons have an excellent mid-game boom due to their cheap farms. Their infantry rush is mediocre with no Dark/Feudal Age bonuses, but infantry upgrades will scale well into the late game. Teutons are capable of turtling, rushing, and booming. Their economy is good, particularly their Farms, which are the most cost effective of all civilizations. Their defensive capabilities are great, mostly thanks to Crenellations and overall solid defensive structures. Although it's not the most innovative campaign in the AoE franchise, it still offers an entertaining experience that fans will be enjoying for years to come. The Teutons are an infantry civilization. It presents a diverse set of challenges while giving players insight into the life and times of the controversial English king. The Lords of the West DLC puts the Sicilian and Burgundian civilizations at its forefront while sidelining the English king. There is a lot to love, but long-time players looking for something new might find the Longshanks' campaign a bit disappointing.
